Will someone explain to me why so many seniors are duped into buying HMO or PPO plans when they dont even realize that they are giving up their medicare benefits to the company?? I work for walgreens but i am moving into life insurance and we call on seniors and most of them have no clue what they have and its sad. Its an agents responsibility to explain to these people what they are buying or have bought!!

I think it depends on the PPO and the particular area you live in. I do not sell the HMO's, but I know many seniors very happy with them. Your perspective is skewed. I have seveeral hundred PPO clients and I get very few complaints and literally nobody is experiencing problems. I think the future holds problems regarding govt funding and subsequent co-pay and premium increases, but...

I also sell quit a few traditional Med Sups. Never any problems there either. The problem policies are the PDP plans and the idiots at the drug stores who run the clients through the computer and 'prescribe' an overpriced and overhyped choice, when generally the value plan with no deductible is the best choice irregardless of the drug list. ;) I also find that most of the PDP plan enrollees are not explained the coverage gap or it is explained to them incorrectly. How many PDP plans have you advised clients to buy that cover generics through the gap when they only pay $4 for at most of the major pharmacies? Gap or not.

It is a matter of perception and it is not as cut and dried as one may think looking at it from the sidelines.
