Have a hotel risk I am working on. What is unique with this class or who is competitive with this class? This is a 80 room major chain hotel. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I have seen Harleysville, Selective, Guard & Donegal all be competitive on these risks. I'm not a big commercial guy at all, but from my experience there tends to be a bunch of companies that write them..
In my experience, underwriting hotels focuses on a few additional things:
Strong financials
Healthy occupancy rates
Experience/tenure of the owners
If there's a restaurant/Bar on premises, that will be looked at closely as well, as if it were any other restaurant you were writing. Unless it's a leased operation, it will have to meet the carriers underwriting standards for that class too. If it is leased out, you might catch a break with a carrier but you'll probably need proof of the coverage the bar owner has in place.
Most carriers have a Hotel questionnaire that will walk you through their additional questions.
We just bound one in FL and have several in different states. Hotels can be difficult, especially if they are in coastal areas or difficult workers compensation states.
If you wish to send in a submission, we will try to help. [email protected]
