Currenttly, I am a captive agent with a major firm in NJ. I think at this piont in my career I just want to be a non captive agent or broker.

I want to be able to do what I want, sell what I want and work when I want.

I am life/health licenced and have a series 7.

I want to focus on Life and variable annuities. Can anyone recomend a good firm in Nj that I can be non-captive with.

I have only been in the buisness about 2 years and am still new, but I no longer feel I need training, and the B.S with being a captive agent.

Where do I begin

Thanks

The variable annuities are going to be a problem because you need a BD for you series 7 that allows you flexibility and a minimal haircut.

To be independent it is as simple as only signing with insurance companies that do not restrict what you can sell.

I realize that coming from a Series 7 Background you like VA's. Look at the Fixed Annuities. They do not require (at this point) a BD or securities license. You will be able to sell safe harbor stuff as well as life insurance to the same clients. AND, you will be able to say you have NEVER lost a penny of a clients money in these types of products. Bet you can't say that right now if you are selling VA's.

You don't need to associate with a firm in NJ. IMO/FMO's are usually national. Many to choose from. PM me when you get the required posts and I will tell you who I am with that can also handle your Securities licenses.

Yes, I really like VA's that is were most of my buisness has come from. Life seems to be more of a pain in the butt because it takes forever to get paid on it and there always seems to be an issue with underwriting.

I got to make a decsion soon and find a good BD to hook up with. I have about 6-10 apps I can right tomorrow from friends and family. If I write them through my currnet firm and then leave they will take the money because it all gets put in a pool and they pay me 25% bi-weekly.

I have 1 LTC, 2 whole Life, 1 fixed annuity, 2 var annuity, and 2 term apps just waiting.

I am so frustrated, I need to get paid but don't want my GA taking my money. Captive really sucks in my opionion.

How many post do I need to PM.

I can send you my email if you want and perhaps we can chat.

Thanks

What is an IMO/FMO anyway. My best friend who has been and got me into this buisness 29 years also want's to go independant. He has no idea either what to do. We both do some joint field work and we both want out of our current agency.

The question is just were the heck do we go.

Yeah, he is an old dog 29 years with the same company, he want's out and is asking me with 2 years experience what to do. Like I have a clue?
