In the somewhat rare event that an MAPD member stays LONGER than the first 20 days of their Medicare benefit, how does the SNF make sure that the $200/day is paid after the 20 days?

Do they require that a DEPOSIT should be paid up front or just hope that the pt will pay up or send to Collections if they don’t?

Skilled nursing facilities are transitional care facilities. This means that they provide rehabilitative services until you can move on.

On average, the length of stay in said facilities is between 20 to 38 days. Once your stay in the facility is over, you can move to a residential environment such as an assisted living facility.

Your insurance usually dictates how long people will stay in a skilled nursing facility. That's because it can be costly. Therefore, it might be ideal to speak with the facility’s billing department first. That way, you can discuss your coverage requirements first.

Keep in mind that, when the patient no longer needs skilled care, or they fail to show improvement, they are kicked to the curb (in a manner of speaking) and are transferred to a convalescent center, memory care or home.

The cost of their care at that point becomes the responsibility of the patient, their family, or government assistance.
