How Does the Romney's Mass Health Plan Pay Brokers?

Just curious if we have any Massachuttes agents here that can tell us how agents are paid in the Small Group market?

There is a reason why there are no health agents from Maine or Massachusetts on a health insurance forum. Think about it.

13. What are the broker commissions?
For new business in Business Express, the commission is $10 per subscriber per month for groups of 1-5, and 2.5% of premium for groups of 6-50.

14. Is there a broker incentive program?
For the initial re-launch of Business Express, the Connector is offering a one-time broker incentive program for new sales with a coverage effective date of April 1, 2012. Brokers who have five or more new small business (groups of 2-50 only) sales through Business Express with a coverage effective date
of April 1, 2012, that remain with Business Express for at least 90 days will receive a one-time incentive payment of $500.

Wow, this explains why the premiums in MA have dropped so much over the last few years!!!!!

Premiums dropped because the DOI and AG's office put the carriers and providers in a room, locked the door and said "don't come out until you figure it out."

They did.

2.5% comp is doable, but you have to have a lot of groups you're working with to make a good living. That's easier when a lot of people won't mess around with it.

For groups of 50+, are they expected to go out on their own? Is that where a broker market exists?
