Just basic auto and home to start. I am looking into getting licensed and want to have an idea of what people were producing on average in their first year.
Where you a start up agency or working with an existing agent who already had a marketing campaign up and running?
Anyone else care to share their experience?

The reason I ask is because I am thinking of starting an agency in Charlotte, NC.
I am looking at getting a SBA loan to cover cost for two years of operating expense.
Fortunately my wife makes almost enough to cover all of our bills, so most months I wouldn't need to pay myself very much.
I have 7 years of experience in sales, marketing and operations management. I know I can market and sell, and if I can start pulling in residules on top of new commission in the second year this is very possible.
I would say 10 to 15 policies a month. You have to keep in mind that one policy with an independent agent, could have 3 cars, 2 houses, etc. I would also try to mix in 2 to 5 commercial policies.
I just finished college. My production was WAY lower than 3 homes/ 6 cars. the Monthly view is more accurate. I wrote 3 auto this week, and i have a few homes in the pipe. This month I expect to knock down 5-6 autos and 4 homes.
Knock on residential doors (nice newer homes) for 1 hour a day. Tell them you save the majority of people you quote hundereds a year. You should get 3 people that will give you permission to call them. You will get another 10-15 that aren't interested. 15 leads a week. Close 20% = 3 homes and 6 autos. Not bad for getting out of your comfort zone for 5 hours a week.
