How to Change Plans for On Exchange Clients

Just discovered this today - thought it may be helpful for some of y'all doing HIX business:

If you login to a clients account, click on "2014 (State) Application for Individual & Family Coverage" (middle of screen, then click on "My plans and Programs" (left hand side, top/1st choice) you will be taken to a summary screen that NOW INCLUDES A BUTTON to "CHANGE TO A DIFFERENT PLAN" below the button it says "During Open Enrollment, you can change the health insurance plan for this group."

I suppose this answers the question of whether they have only 1 HIX election during Open enrollment. I had quite a few carrier reps tell me differently in 2013.

See attached screenshot.

Unfortunately this only works if the client hasn't paid their first premium.

After that it has to be "escalated-up" with a qualified reason for the change.

CMS is "supposed" to call the client in 3-5 days to speak with them and do the change to give effective date for new plan back to 1/1/14.

I have one of these now where the incorrect network was displayed when selecting the plan. The carrier can't change the plan it has to be done by CMS which is a pain in the *ss.

So far no call to client.....sigh....what to do? :err:

Interesting. The client in the screenshot has paid premiums and is active with their current insurer. Of course, I did not bother to click the "Change Plans" button, but hovering over the button seems to indicate that it is a working button (b/c I have seen a few "buttons" that were nothing more than a static image, lol). I assumed this would allow for a change effective 2/1/2014. Duaine, specifically referring to the case you referenced, did you attempt to change plans prior to 1/1/2014?

Thanks for this helpful info PQ. So far, it appears that the agents who chose NOT to do Exchange business were very wise. They sure won't age as rapidly. I had an Exchange applicant today who healthcare.gov says is dead. They say that he has to go to the Social Security office and prove that he isn't dead.

Knock on wood everything that I have ran through the exchange recently has not been too much of an issue. It is taking a little while between completion on the Exchange and when I am seeing it appear in my business listing in BCBST however, but my brokerage has been excellent about making sure that the people I enroll are being credited to me.

What's funny is if you do try to remove a plan once enrolled it WON't work. I've been trying to eliminate a dental plan and nope cannot do it. The carrier says the marketplace can do it the marketplace says call the carrier.

I have tried that before and it didn't work. It keep taking me back to the "enroll todo list" but everything was locked.

I have a conversation with Amanda on the chat about it and she gave me the run around, then just left the chat without really answering my questions other than "call the Marketplace at ....." She keep telling me I needed to remove my current application so I can change it.

My guess is that button will be active once someone pays for a plan and has an SEP. Otherwise, just start over with new email and verification process.

this is the biggest pita part of servicing obamamymama plans, I had a client that wanted to change her plan just 1 day after signing up, my rep at the exclusive agency for the carrier, told me to submit a plan addendum with carrier, which took 3 weeks back n forth before I found out the client had to make the change through the marketplace - not the carrier.

Which screwed the client out of changing her plan, her original date when she signed up was b4 she paid and before her eff date...big ol pain

You do realize those are bot's on the chat, right?

PostQ,
I don't think this one was a bot. It was pretty detailed back and forth about what that button will and will not do. Near the end she keep telling me to call the exchange, then she left the chat. I guess she got tired of me...
