How To Find An Independent Agency As A New Agent ?

Im planning on taking my exam sometime in October or early November and after reading on here about being captive I think might just look for an independent agency.

But before I start going down the yellow pages I wanted to know:

1. How do I ask if their business is doing well without offending?
(being new to the business is this to much for me to ask)

2. Would an Indy be upset if all I have is an L&H license?
(Wanted to focus on L&H first)

3. Should I have a P&C to work for an independent?

4. Will an independent agency have training (is this something I should expect)?

5. Will an independent hire me as a part-time employee? ( I currently work for the state and would prefer to be in a business where hard work pays if you get what I mean)

6. Will I have to sign a contract with an independent?
If so what should I be aware of ?

I'm sure there is more questions but for now this is it....

forget the p&c side. what kind of life insurance do you want to sell. just get your license, and read this forum.

Knocking and talking to agencies is good advice. The agency owner, management style and the office vibe can be very important.

I would add that you may want to do a self inventory. What are your strengths, What do you bring to an agency. Do you have a natural market, Speak more than one language, belong to clubs? Make a running list of your attributes. Read it over several times, so that you can repeat them in a conversational tone.

just my 2 cents

Actually blues I do believe I tap into a large Latino market, which I am a part of a National Fraternal Latino Organization located all across the East Coast. Obviously I do speak spanish and fluently although I will have to work on the technical terms.

Great advice.

Thanks for chiming in on the covo.

You could start with selling Final Expense life insurance. There are plenty of agencies that generate leads and sell them. They also give you training and a presentation book. Compared to everything else, it's probably the easiest way to get started and you will earn money quickly.

Anyone else agree that final expense is the easiest way to get started and quickly earn money?

You should look up fiesta insurance, they are a P&C franchise, that specializes in the latino business. i think it is a 10,000 buy in. they are on this forum time to time.
