Im 34 wife is 33 daughter 4 located in Clark County Indiana. We are all in very good health. Wife and I are self employed. I have a $7,000 family deductible and 100% coverage after that. My premiums are $290 a month.

I hate paying for this because I am out of pocket another $100 plus a month paying for Dr visits and so on. I feel my coverage sucks and there isnt any value to it. Im considering raising the deductible to save premium dollars and picking up some kind of critical illness or accident plan but dont know what to do. The way I see it whats a couple thousand more dollars if Im already on the hook for 7k? Any ideas on how to get a better deal or just add value. Thanks

sounds to me like u have a decent plan. However, u can raise ur deductible like u mentioned and get lower premiums but there is a trade off. We buy insurance for one reason only, protection!! If you wanna lower ur premiums, go with the higher ded. and buy urself some CI like u mentioned. Just keep in mind, not all claims are for critical illness so that gallbladder surgery will cost you. Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. I don't sell health insurance in Indiana but I doubt you'll find a better option if this is an HSA-compatible plan. You're going to be in for a shock when January 2014 rolls around.

Headcase quit whinin there is nothing out of line with what you are paying. good coverage good price join the ranks of the individual insurance world

If you own a grandfathered policy effective before 3/23/10, you better keep it to avoid Obamacare prices.

You've got to expect to pay $75 to see a professional doctor, I can't get a gardener to my house for that amount.

At your young ages, highest risk is an accident, so yes, I like the raise the deductible to 10k and buy up to a 10k accident policy route. That's what I own personally.
Here is a good one: National Association of Consumers Direct

If you own an HSA, which it sounds like you do, be sure you're leveraging your tax deductions through an HSA account. More info on my HSA website below.

Can you be more specific what those expenses are? Anthem or UnitedHealthcare are likely your best options. There are a few brokers that live in Indiana that can offer more specific advice.

I spent around $1500 last year on dr visits. My daughter is 4 and my wife takes her to the dr for everything plus the couple times we went. We dont take any scripts or require any special medical attn.

My situation is pretty close to yours. Similiar ages, premium and deductible. If my son hadn't gotten sick with the flu and then dehydrated so we took him to the ER, we were going to save a ton. We use to be on a co-pay plan and it kept going up each year. I decided last summer to switch over to a HSA plan. Huge premium savings. Even still, I think it is probably breakeven between last year and this year.
