Insurance Agent New to Forums

My name is Krista and I'm licensed in P&C and Life/Health in OK and AR. I'm currently employed as an insurance agent for an agent who works for Farmers Insurance. Notice that he works for the company and...I do not. This means I have no benefits! For obvious reasons, I have recently decided to branch out on my own but am not quite ready to quit my day job. I'm looking into selling health insurance (and possibly commercial...if things go according to plan) and setting up appointments in the evening and on weekends as not to get in the way of my day job. Just wondering if anyone else out there is in the same boat or if you have been before and I would like to know what has worked for you. I've also gotten appointed with a few health insurance providers and would like the names of a few more to add to my list. I haven't bought an E&O policy yet...so any ideas on who to purchase that from would be greatly appreciated as well.
Anyway, I've had my license for 5 years now and am really good at my job. The way our agency is set up, our customers never deal with my boss who is actually employed by Farmers. I quote the insurance, sell the insurance, market the insurance, service the policies, and assist in claims handling when things aren't being handled satisfactorily by the claims team. I just figure if I'm required to take on all of the responsibilities of the agent who is actually getting the commission and benefits of being an insurance agent for the big company and reaping all of the benefits and I'm able to do so well for him...maybe I can do as well or better for myself. So any and all suggestions are welcome. Let me know what's working for you! I will be more than happy to return the favor if I find myself in the position to do so. :)
