Insurance Sales Career SE Iowa

I'm looking for some direction on how to get a good start with a career in insurance in SE Iowa. I have interviewed with AFLAC , State Farm- but just don't feel comfortable with some of their processes. I have also been offered a part time position with a Farm Bureau agent to start out selling life only with the intent of moving into a full time position. What are some of your thoughts . I'd appreciate any feedback or insights. Thanks!!

Have you made up your mind that you are going captive?

Also, Welcome to the forum.

By being able to sell via the telephone and internet - the world is your marketplace.

Selling insurance is no different than selling fish bowls - you need leads, product and the ability to close the sale.

It's easier than some make it out to be.

Good Luck,

Tom

Not sure if I will become a captive agent or independent. I see both sides . All I know is that whichever way I go, I plan to stay on that course and not loose any renewals by switching. I would also like to be able to keep the business in the family, if one or more of my childdren decide to go that direction. I know that captive companies have a different outlook on this and therefore some agents do not own the book of business.

Aflac might not be a bad thing... Granted, you most likely will not stay with them long term. However, typically they have a good "FREE" training program and this helps get started in the insurance business.

I guess I would look at some noncaptive positions as well as what you have considered thus far. If keeping business in the family, and looking at the big picture I would think this would allow you the most profit with the most freedom. That said if you are looking to attach yourself to something that will help get you start nd offer base pay then you need to go captive.
