It's Been a Great Year!!!!

Well, my 1st anniversary is here and things are still rolling right along. I can say that changing careers is the best thing I've done in many years.

What have I learned:

1. I hope this gives help to new agents that are reading this. You can make a great career out of this business if you are willing to work hard and smart, do things you are not real fond of doing(like cold-calling and working on nights and weekends), study and become proficient in the products you are selling, and always strive to put yourself in a better position to make a good living in this industry.

2. You must also have faith in yourself and your abilities regardless of what anyone else tells you, especially on this forum. If you believe that you can be successful and are willing to take the necessary steps, you will be successful. Take a good look at yourself and if you are not the type of person that will prospect instead of waiting for customers to come to you, find something else to do before you go broke and into debt.

3. Try not to base your success on what others on this forum say because the majority are full of crap and tend exaggerate to their success.

4. Don't be a jack of all trades. Concentrate on a couple of products and become an expert in them. There is not enough time in the day to sell everything available.

5. Remember this, there is no easy way to get started in this business. NONE!!! Buying leads, paying for , instant transfers, etc. are useless until you learn your products.

6. Although there is some good information on this forum, there are many people trying to dip into you pocket and take what they can get while you are still in the business because most people are out within a years time.

7. Use various ways of prospecting. What happens if all you do is cold-call and the law changes where you can't, and that is all you know, you are screwed.

8. Don't put all of you eggs into one basket. Why do I sell commercial and med. supps.? If the bottom drops out of one, I still have the other, and I really enjoy both. Remember the opposite of PROGRESS is CONGRESS.

9. Many people will try to take credit for your success but they won't take credit if you fail. You will never see someone on this forum say "I am the reason Joe Agent failed":D but they sure will jump on the " I'm the reason he's successful" bandwagon.

10. Be sincere when dealing with your clients, put their best interest first, even if it pays less, and you will reap the rewards of getting referrals from them.

11. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH WINNERS, NOT NAYSAYERS and there are 50 naysayers for every 1 person that can help you.

12. And most of all, DO NOT GO INTO DEBT trying things out. Again, there are plenty of people who will to take your money and let you have huge credit card bill and no career, as they sit back and enjoy the good life.

13. Don't give any credit to those who helped you succeed.

14. Step on others as often as possible.

15. As soon as you can, start sharing your "secrets" with other agents only if they agree with your religion.

16. Generally be an asshole.

You're quite welcome. There's nothing more rewarding than knowing you helped someone, that's way more valuable than money ever could be.

Keep up the great work!!

He's entitled to his opinion no matter how worthless it is. I'll keep doing what I'm doing regardless. Tomorrow from 8:30-4:30 I have a class on business auto and business owners insurance given by Erie Insurance. I give Rick and his boys full credit for that knowledge too.
