It's so surreal to be here...

Hello everyone! I have really enjoyed looking around here in the forum, so much information!

I could have never, in a million years, imagined myself working in the insurance industry. Yet here I am.

I have been self employed, running various businesses over the last 20 years, location independent and living all over the world. Then COVID 19 hit, and everything shifted. I was spending time with an old friend back in late February and she was telling me that she had started selling life insurance. I listened with an open mind, but the MLM element caused me to shut down and brush off the opportunity... for a few weeks. Then my attitude changed, and I thought, well, might as well give it a try.

I got my license in Tennessee for Life, Accident, and Health Insurance at the beginning of May. I hit the ground running, following the system and putting in far more hours than I could have ever imagined.

I've yet to make any sales. And the more I learn about the company that I am working for and the world of insurance, the more I feel like I've made the wrong decision. However, I have been enjoying the work! I've quoted some whole life policies, but mostly it has been mortgage protection and final expense. I really like helping people, and I've enjoyed the challenge of finding the best rate and a policy that meets their expectations. The concept of the leads actually being people, in real life that want coverage, is great too. Even though, in reality, many of the people claim to have never filled out the request, or have found coverage already, or have already paid off their mortgage!

So now I'm torn about my next moves. I am 100% not working for this company anymore! Since I haven't written any business, and I did not finish my submission for carrier numbers, I am assuming all I need to do is send in an emailing saying that I quit. I am self-motivated and have really enjoyed working from home. I'm guessing that makes me a good fit for an IMO or a FMO. I have no desire to work in health insurance, but I am open to learning more about the wide world of life insurance.

Another element that I liked about the business model of this company was, if a friend of mine, in another state, wanted to buy life insurance, all I needed to do was get my license in their state and then I could find a policy and set it up for them. Is this true? I am so jaded by the lies and half-truths from my current company, I just don't even know what to believe.

Sounds like you have been working with NAA, Securus, or some offshoot thereof.

Either way, welcome to the forum. There are several great IMOs that would more than likely fit you much better, right here on the forum.

To answer your other question about selling a friend, yes you just apply for a non-resident license (which most states grant with no more than paperwork and a check) and write the application. Your carrier MIGHT have an issue if you are with a captive and the company has boundary restrictions in place. Of course if your friend comes to your state and fills in the info you are good to go. I had friends visit all the time

Wow, interesting. It has nothing to do with the friend's home address?

If you are licensed in that state, NO, it doesn't matter. If they "visit" you in your resident state the application simply says something along the lines of "where did you take the application". Most of my applications were written in my home state
