Jumping In

I've been reading through the posts of on this forum for a while now and I thought it was time to introduce myself. Here's a brief bio and why I'm here.

Bio: I've spent a little over 30 years in sales and small business (read micro business); none of it in insurance. From 2000-2010 I built a little business designing and selling safety glasses and sunglasses that I sold at a variety fairs, car shows, gun shows, etc., basically anywhere someone would let me pitch my tent. I got to see a lot of the lower 48 and I had a lot of fun. I can't say I ever got rich, but the cash flow was "very comfortable." Of course that cash flow slowed way down with the economy, and then because of some health issues at home I eventually scaled my business back to a hobby and got myself a real job selling mattresses on commission for the last 3 years. The money's decent but not great, and I don't have to travel. I average 50ish hours a week with weekends mandatory. I've given notice and will be moving on to something more suitable.

Objective: A few months ago I decided I needed to do more than sit in a store and get paid for growing old - I'm 55, fit and healthy. I'm entrepreneurial by nature, and in a position financially to support a couple of years building something. I've been looking at insurance as a possibility. I first got interested in insurance when I spoke with an AFLAC recruiter. Not interested in AFLAC. First thing I discovered here at this forum is it's a big field. I'm looking for feed back and contacts. Are there any threads you would recommend I read?
