Just Started in Florida

I just started going door to door cold calling, but using an online website to pull up all the recent solds in my community. I then match the addresses with the names from the property appraiser website for my county. It takes more work doing this, but I like having someone's name before I knock on the door.

I started door to door on my own since NAA is not providing me with any leads for my city or neighboring communities. I am basically on my own, and I suppose that will toughen my skin in this business.

If NAA is not providing you with any leads why work for them?

Well then, get out and go independent with better carriers!

The guy is dead-ass broke and has had a license for two months, and he should "go independent"? I'm not sure I've ever heard advice so foolish.

What he ought to do is find someone whom he can work with and learn the business. He may have to split comp for a while, but 50% of something will keep his head above water versus 100% of nothing.

Will it be easy to find someone? No. Is it essential? Yes.

Well, that could be with an independent group then, couldn't it? When I started, I went through a local IMO who trains and provides decent contracts. I assume that there are other IMO's outside of Indiana who will help someone get started.

Margarita hangover making you snarky this morning?

This guy's best bet is to get on with a large career shop that gives some kind of financing or salary to get people started. Only having 2 months experience won't count against him too much.

Sure, he'll get reduced comp, but he will get some money to get going and hopefully a mentor if he picks the right agency. Hopefully they can either provide some leads and/or teach him out to prospect.

If you can tell me who might be a good fit for me that would be appreciated. I don't want to travel until I get established. I am currently told that you have to travel to make it in insurance. I don't like hearing that, if it is not true.

I believe with all my heart that I can help people get insurance protection, and I love talking and presenting to people. I feel that insurance is really the best way, or close to it of helping someone, a family, an older individual, a young professional. I want to make it in this business, but I must say, I do need support as I don't feel that I can be an island just yet.
