Hello all,

I have been licensed for P&C for a couple of weeks now and have had trouble finding employment. I am trying to become an exclusive agent. I have attempted applying for positions at AllState StateFarm but have been unsuccessful.

Many of the jobs on job boards (monster, indeed, etc.) are for strictly life insurance or financial services.

I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to begin a career as an agent.. maybe some companies or website you know that can be of use to me. Thank you very much. Have a great day!

Try Liberty Mutual.

If you have a degree and some sales background you can get a job.

You won't be "exclusive" you'll be more of a producer but the pay is good and you get full benefits.

Look in your local craigslist ads to see if there are any local agents or brokers you can get your foot in. Learn and get some experience and may be move out on your own.

Farmers will take you but they might want you sell all those other products as well. Where I live, there are so many Farmers agent, why bother even adding another one to the list.

Have you look into Nationwide? I have no idea what their requirement is.

I'm in the same boat as you but I'm trying to be an independent agent. I went to the P&C area and read through as many posts as I could and wrote down some of those clusters and research them. You could do the same as well. Research. Contact them and see if you can find a cluster that will give contracts to new agents. I'm not quite ready to contact them yet.

Where are you located?

P&C pays the lowest commission and has a high turnover. Are you not interested in getting licensed for Life and/or Health. Life insurance pays very well and Medicare provides lifetime residuals.

Most P&C is bought, not sold. Low commissions.

Most life insurance is sold, not bought. High commissions.

Many P&C agents end up as employees.

Life insurance agents who can sell, can be independent and self employed.

If you can sell, life insurance pays much better. If you can't...
