Does anyone know, if you are a sole prop. doing work as an independent contractor to other companies.. in my case field chases and document deliveries - are you required to carry Workmans comp?

I've tried to research it and the answers I'm finding are both Yes and No.

Thanks

I can't answer specifically for Massachusetts, but usually owners of a business are not required to carry workers comp coverage. You may want to, or the companies you contract with may require it, but it usually isn't a requirement.

Again, you'll have to get a MA specific answer, just make sure they understand you are a sole-prop, without employees, so the answer is correct.

If you research online, you will very likely get yes and no answers. Each state and certain industries have different rules. For instance, a sole prop, with employees, you would likely need workers comp, except in a few states (which will go nameless for now)
