ok.. getting close to 65 and have to start Medicare but, I do not get Social security benefits until 66 and a half. I am broke. No retirement. How do I pay for plan b until I get my SS at 66.5 ? FYI, I would rather wait until 70 to take SS, I am healthy and family history they all lived into 90 years plus!

You can receive SSA @ 65 but a reduced amount from FRA. Contact SSA and ask what your age 65 benefit will be.

Why are you broke?

You're healthy.

Get a job that pays you enough to include paying the $150 per month that Part B costs.

Or a second job if your day job isn't enough.

So your saying there are no options, I already thought of both of your posts, was hoping to find a better answer than common responses, I am tempted to opt out of SS and Medicare, I really hate government rule, government= corruption

No, I did not say there are no options. Try reading again, with comprehension.

You can opt out of SS if you want but if you ever want Medicare you will need to opt back in, then apply for Medicare A & B, and pay a lifetime late enrollment penalty for Part B.

You Can't Opt Out of Medicare Without Losing Social Security, Judge Rules

You can also postpone SS until YOU are ready to receive payments. The Part B late penalty will still apply.

If you opt out of both you are forfeiting all you and your employers have paid in since you started working. And when you get sick you will have the option of relying on the charity of others to pay your medical bills.

Ran across that ruling a few days ago, did not seem to make any sense. but what does nowadays?

Guess I will just sign up for part A and forgo the rest until i turn 70 and see how healthy i am at that point. FYI right now I pass physical with flying colors, better than most 40 year olds!
Doctors hate me lol

Any other ideas graciously welcome, Thanks

Perhaps a Medicare Advantage with a Part B premium reduction give back might help out for a while.
thought of that too. has a couple caveats. like the plan and premiums change every year, plus if plan goes away and your sick, you cannot get back into medicare. pretty scary huh?

Why would you be worried about every year? Worry about now and change plans as needed once your Social Security kicks in. Frightening!
