Medicare prescription drug costs

Biden administration just announced they have reached an agreement with drug manufacturers to lower the price of 10 drugs commonly used by seniors. It just happens to say it will save $5 billion dollars. This just happens to be the exact amount they said the new premium stabilization program is going to cost.

I can see the headlines now: Biden administration negotiates with big pharma to save taxpayers $5 billion and are using the savings to lower millions of senior's premiums on their prescription drug plans. These politicians (both sides) can find a way to spin anything to make themselves look good before the election.

Great job. The Harris Administration will lower even more prescription costs in the coming years…

email from UHC, (emphasis mine) :

Part D Plans
UnitedHealthcare will be participating in the recently announced Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration. As a result, our Part D 2025 standalone members will have a premium increase of no more than $35 compared to 2024 and some members will have a premium decrease. Attend one of our local rollouts to get the details for your market

Thanks Joe....

You guys know that the reduced pricing doesn't kick in until 2026, right? Why is that?

~Negotiations for the first group of selected drugs will begin in 2023, with negotiated prices going into effect in 2026.~

Yeah. Biden said that yesterday.

Not surprising no one on the MAGA or Kennedy side have applauded this.
