Mobile Apps Legal for Auto Insurance Proof

You can add Indiana to that list as of a week or two ago. Ohio will probably add to that in several months.

But I doubt you will ever see the end of the insurance card. They volume of insurance cards will be drastically reduced, but never go away completely.

Too many people are old school for it to go away. Also, you have people that make a down payment just for the 6 month proof of insurance card, and then never make another payment. They'll never switch to something that verifies coverage in real time. Some states have figured out how to stop that, but most haven't.

But overall, I think nearly all 50 states will go for this because of the simple fact of reducing costs.

Add Illinois too. They approved the bill Aug. 23rd.

All the states will surely be passing similar bills sooner than later. There is a high incentive for every state to go electronic since they are all being forced to real in expenses due the recession. Going electronic wherever possible is one of easy ways for them to do it.

Yeah its legal, infact moblile apps are helpfull for us, appa gives us exact information about what we feed. if we talking about insurance, tehre are many appa which gives notification of insurance's date. Thanks

It could be the end of the insurance card if the State's actually went paperless. But they will not...

In AZ, they passed same law allowing consumer to show insurance card on their smart phone for proof of coverage.

But, you still must send in copy of insurance card to MVD folks if you cancel your coverage or buy a new auto. They are not capable of accepting a pdf image. Only the very trained DPS officer can view it on the phone and allow it as valid proof!

Still written law, insurance companies must provide in paper form, two ID cards....
