I am sure you all remember what it was like, when you thought that insurance was your thing. I am lucky as I have spent 20 years working in account management and heavy industry, so I know what it is to be told no and work long hours. I posted in the other forum first, just to jump into the community but I can see that there is a lot of information. I have spent several hours today reading and learning and then I realized-

Most of this doesn't mean anything to me, as I am spending time reading about complex issues people were having, when I can barely tie my proverbial shoe in insurance conversations. I see why people get paralysis by analysis here, so much good information.

Anyways, I look forward to continue to learn and grow and attempt to treat this business as my business, not because I have to right now, but because I think this is where I want to be. Now if I could just decide between Med Ad/Supps and FE, I would be better off, but I figure when I finish the licensing portion, I will know it better.

Why decide between the 3 when you can do all 3?

Hey Todd, long term I do think all 3 would be beneficial as complimentary offerings. Most of what I have read talks about starting with one and learning it well before branching out.

From some old postings I read progression chain that people seem to recommend is FE or Supps first, then eventually adding the other to MA- since the learning curve for MA is steep.

It really depends on the individual. FE is pretty much slam dunk easy to learn. So are Med Supps. There is a few more moving parts to Medicare Advantage though.

Some agents learn one thing at the time and some learn several at the time.

Very true, and that is why I am trying to absorb as much as I can for now. Not sure if I am going to try and wing it somewhere for a few months to learn everything or just go IMO route and control my own destiny with my own ambition and drive. I'm leaning the latter route, just because it is my terms to a degree, albeit a steeper learning curve.

After my licensing test next week, you're on my short list to reach out to and talk to.

decide between Med Ad/Supps and FE,

Focus on one then branch out.

Each line of coverage is a different kind of sales process. IMO if you try all 3 at the same time you will lose more than you gain.

Medicare is a selfish prospect. Your client reaps the financial rewards of the claim.

FE is selfless. Client never gets to spend the claim money.

FE is "fast money".

Medigap is S L O W.

MA is quick money for 2 months then nothing the rest of the year unless you stumble across T65 or SEP.

If we go by media reports, the selfish market will be better in 15 years, but the generation facing FE now is still somewhat selfless to a degree. Of course that is just speculation and forum fodder, but.....perhaps some truth.

I like the way you mention that Medicare if selfish and FE is selfless, did not think of them in that regard. Makes a lot of sense and would definitely require separate approaches.
