Hello everyone this is my first post. I am new to insurance as a whole and just recently started working as an independent agent in the town close to home. I live in a county with over 1 million people residing in it . There is a lot of business to be had here. I've quoted several people and so far have matched or been cheaper than the other companies that they were already with. I can write any kind of insurance there is , through whichever company necessary. I really want to write every gun shop I frequent weekly. Wouldn't hurt to know the owners of the stores I spend so much hard earned money in. I've been sending letters to people, handing out business cards and brochures, and getting friends and friends parents involved sending me referrals. Business is slowly starting to trickle into success, but I would rather be too busy to even know what I'm doing. What is the secret to spreading the word? How do I make my name synonymous with insurance?

I think you are off to a good start but the insurance industry is changing. The hometown guy is getting pushed out a bit because the younger generation wants to do everything virtually. My suggestion would be to expand your efforts to social media and look into selling across state lines to expand your opportunities.

After you buy your next gun or ammunition ask who the owner is and if they are available.

Sounds like you're on the right track. You could consider joining a networking group, chamber of commerce, canvassing...I mostly used direct mail and traveled away from home.

Welcome to the world of Insurance, I think you can find success locally but soon you will run out of friends and family to write. The face of insurance is changing drastically and the most successful agents are doing business virtually and across state lines. I currently write business in 10 states and do %99 of my business over the phone. I utilize a marketing platform with unlimited leads and phone verified live transfers...I am looking forward to open enrollment, last enrollment I wrote $500,000 ap.

Is that a welcome or a sales pitch? What percentage of agents on this forum do you think are "doing business virtually"?

You may find some ideas in this book. Keep in mind that most of these ideas cost some money and may not be able to be done on a continuous basis.
