Hi everyone! This forum has been extremely helpful and valuable in my decision to make a career change. I have been a music teacher for 8 years and have run a small business on the side for about 9 years. Unfortunately, I have developed an overuse condition that has limited my playing ability! I realize that my music business has given me the opportunity to develop sales skills (prospecting, developing leads, marketing, cold calling, setting up consultations with the intention of closing, etc.) that I could carry into another industry. My grandfather was a successful New York Life agent and I have decided to pursue the same path so on June 11 I will take the Life/Health exam here in Flagstaff, AZ. Any advice on how to get started would be nice. I would like to get into the Medicare niche and possibly work from a home based office to start. There is a local State Farm agent looking to hire a sales agent as well. How to proceed?

You're getting your Wahlbergs mixed up. Mark was never a New Kid... that was his brother, who's now dating Jennie McCarthy. Yowza!:twitchy:

Welcome to the Forum Mr. Ranchero.

I'd recommend that you not go with Snake Farm or Allsnakes. Find a good IMO, I here good things aboit Chris Westfall (Daytona Guy on the forum) for Med Sups

The SF position might be ok to get your feet wet and to learn. However, it is not the best place to start unless you intend to do P&C.

From what I've seen, heard and had other agents tell me...noting about Snake Farm is a good idea...but what do I know...I only sell insurance

I would not consider becoming a S F agent. However, I believe this is a producer position for a S F agent.

State Farm would probably be one of the worst places to get your feet wet in the medicare market.

That is definitely a fact.

Welcome Lance!

Starting with a focus on Medicare is the best way to start in this business. I'll second you reach out to Chris Westfall.

You just happen to know this these details off the top of your head...

:twitchy:My daughter was 12 when they were popular. Joey was her favorite. LOL. I couldn't stand them. Mark's become a good actor and I just saw on MSN news about his brother dating Jenny.
