New MGA and New to Forum

I had know idea how shady people think MGAs are. WOW! I have been reading posts on this forum for a few weeks and just decided to jump on in. I'm a bit nervous, as it seems most people on this site are out for blood from their uplines...and that's what I am...an upline! OY! From what I've read, I can ABSOLUTELY tell you, I am not your typical MGA. I've been in the industry for 7 years and have begun to take over my father's business. We've been servicing broker/dealers for over 25 years and I've decided I want to reposition ourselves to service independent brokers/agents/producers. Apparently, people on this site are used to signing contracts and assigning commissions - well, that's not how I do business. I look at it as I am providing a service, which I should get paid for. However, that being written, I would not be able to provide the service without the business, which is why I offer higher percentages than most. If you call me, I answer. If you e-mail me, I respond. Maybe because I am of the next generation I get it. Either which way, I wish MGAs didn't have such a bad reputation. I am here to learn what I can and to hopefully forge some good relationships with other people in the industry and maybe do some work.

So you're not shady but every post is an ad?

Two suggestions:

1) Use paragraphs. It makes it easier to read your posts.

2) Stop promoting until you've added value. Saying your different and then offering contracts proves you are not different.

Rick,

I was differentiating myself and yes, putting myself out there. I am taking over my father's business and it's pretty intimidating. I'm scared. Maybe I shouldn't admit that, but there it is.

I am hoping to gain a lot from joining this forum and I thought jumping right in and putting myself out there was the way to do it. I have learned lesson one. I was wrong.

All renewal commissions are going to go to my father, so I have to generate new income. In reading through this forum, I thought what I have to offer is exactly what some of the people on here are looking for.

I was not intending to be shady at all. It would only be shady if I was misprepresenting myself, which I am not.

I appreciate the feedback and will make it a point to stick to contributing where I can contribute. In turn, I am hoping on receiving feedback from people who have been where I am and can help guide me towards success.

Sorry,,,inside joke,,,I've always wanted to do that on this forum. Most of the time, I'm the one that gets corrected.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with the idea of adding links, websites, any info into the signature line. As I am new to the forum myself, I have found visiting these links from different members to be as helpful as the forum itself.
