New to the BIZ!!!

Hello everyone, I am new to the business. I do have a license, contemplating getting Health, too.

I do have a few question before I get the show going. And I am sure there are probably multiple answers to all of these. I have spoken to a few agents in person, but i am sure everyone has a different opinion about this stuff.

1) what is the process of signing up with an IMO,( i.e. background checks, credit checks, driving record, etc)

2) I have heard you get the first 6-9 months of commission advanced to you, is it possible to just get paid as the client pays the premium so you can actually eliminate chargebacks.. or do you really have to get the commission advanced in order to purchase leads.

3) will IMOs let you do it part-time and actually LET you do it part-time. In other words says you can sell part-time but really exspect you fulltime.

4) and I know this probably varies, but when doing f2f how long should you be in the house for. I came from an industry where you use to have to give 3 hour presentations.

sorry for the long post and so many questions.

The IMOs don't normally do full background checks. The insurance companies normally do that. Some IMO's do conduct a Vector check to make sure you don't owe any other insurance companies money (usually due to chargebacks).

2) I have heard you get the first 6-9 months of commission advanced to you, is it possible to just get paid as the client pays the premium so you can actually eliminate chargebacks.. or do you really have to get the commission advanced in order to purchase leads.

You do not have to take advance. You can get paid as the client pays (called "As earned"). Do you need advances? Some do and some don't. If you are going to do it part time and you have money from other sources that would buy you leads AND you can still pay your monthly bills, then yes....go as earned.

You can always take a 6 month advance and then later on go as earned.....or something like that.

3) will IMOs let you do it part-time and actually LET you do it part-time. In other words says you can sell part-time but really exspect you fulltime.

Some IMOs would want you to be full time and others don't care. I know we don't care one way or the other.

4) and I know this probably varies, but when doing f2f how long should you be in the house for. I came from an industry where you use to have to give 3 hour presentations.

This will depend on you. At first, it might take you 1 1/2 hours, but soon it would be down to 1 hour, then down to less than that. I know when I was still in the field I could go in on a Med Supp appointment, get that done and also sell them an FE policy in just around an hour. Sometimes it was even less than 45 minutes. It will also depend on how well you are able to control the conversation.

sorry for the long post and so many questions.

Do get your health license. You will miss out on stuff that will fall in your lap if you don't.

You can give us a call at your convenience if you want to chat about options.

Shop your options, and all those "checks" are things the ins companies do.

Unless you can afford $2000/m for leads and can afford to make $900/m as earned you'll
Need an advance.

Part time is a hard way to make it at this, i'd advise against it

Thanks for the feedback people. I figured it is a tough one to do part time. I was wondering along the lines of will they say "yes" just to get me to sign up. And when I tell them I have some time constraints hope or expect me to quit my other gig and do it full time. Or hope that I see a commission check and want to quit my other gig.

This stems from I tried Real Estate and now always a lot of RE agents also sell Insurance. RE can be part time and a lot of retirees actually get there license now and sell 1 or 2 houses a year to pay for a vacation or something. Some brokers will say "yes" part time and once you start Basically expect you to be full time.

Back to Insurance. Through what I am reading it sounds like an industry that you can't have a lot of time constraints unless you REALLY have good time management skills.

As long as you stay independent, you can move at whatever pace suits you.

I started off part time. Man I didn't start working full time until I started building the agency.

You can work 20 hours a week and make $2k a week . . .

IMO doesn't do those - the Carriers do . . .

2) I have heard you get the first 6-9 months of commission advanced to you, is it possible to just get paid as the client pays the premium so you can actually eliminate chargebacks.. or do you really have to get the commission advanced in order to purchase leads.

As Earned is awesome if you have cash to operate on for a year . . .

3) will IMOs let you do it part-time and actually LET you do it part-time. In other words says you can sell part-time but really exspect you fulltime.

IMO's don't dictate. Heck most aren't good for anything other than contracts. Reach out to Josh or Brandon with EFES - they'll hook ya up.

Depends on how long you can stand the smell of cat piss and the itching from fleas. Sell by phone / net - much easier . . .
