New VA Agent

Hi all, my first post was in the getting started selling section but I decided I'd throw in an intro as well. I decided to get into insurance 4 months ago because I wanted to do something different. I decided to go with the Health, Life & Annuities license. Once I began the classes I realized how important the information was and really began to enjoy learning. The last 3 months have been rough. The company I am currently with has offered very little training when it comes right down to it. I am thankful for the training I did receive but I'm looking for more. I have an interview with Transamerica tomorrow and am going to try to talk with ALGA as well. I am also looking for independent agencies that might take me under their wing. If anyone on the forum might have thoughts or can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I am in Lynchburg, VA. Thank you all for this amazing resource that is the forum.

One other thing----if you want to specialize in Final Expense, you can go on Todd's site and join Final Expense 101 for only $49.99. Then you can spend the holidays studying in preparation for 2013.

Welcome and good luck.

Through my experience with my company, a lot of this business is positive mentality, so it wouldn't be a bad investment to read books that focus on this concept. Titles that come to mind:
Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill
Youtube the name 'Dale Carnegie', my favorite audio book by him is 'how to win friends & influence people'
The movies: boiler room or pursuit of happiness, show through acting/actors how this mentality for success is developed and used.

all the small things now will add up to big things later in time. Let me know if you want more research materials, I have plenty to share.

..as for training, I'd suggest spending time in front of a mirror and practicing your speech. Practice phone call lines, arguments, debates, persuasive sales conversations. Just make the vocal part of yourself tuned up and stronger.
