NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming

I went to a training meeting today on selling insurance online.

They said that we all need to buy a book on NLP -Neuro Linguistic Programming.

Do any of you know anything about this or use it?

Sounds like Anthony Agolia who always suggests NLP. His web page: myinsurancenow.com Good Guy.

My wife has the book. I spent about 30 min. reading different parts of it looking for phrases, etc. to add to my presentation. May help a novice, not much help for me though.

It says stuff like if you get the client to keep answer questions with an yes answer, they wont be able to answer the imporant question no...

I am familiar with NLP. There are a lot of programs out there that are marketed to sales people. What they don't tell you, is that it requires a lot of time and effort to become proficient and is difficult to learn by reading a book.

Hey Mark,
I have spent a little time looking at it but never was able to fully dig in. I will definitely do so in the future.

The way I best understand it is that it is designed to program the brain. You can improve your sub-conscious or you can you it to choose the words that influence others at the same level. It is said to help people in relationships, persuasiveness, and personal well being. Basically I put it this way if you appreciate the need to study body language then NLP should interest you as well.

No doubt. That is why I never was able to commit to it.

Why do sales people think they need tricks to sell? What is wrong with asking probing questions to find the need then presenting one or more solutions?

This isn't just used for selling. It's about communication and self improvement. Probing questions certainly have value BUT only 7% of communication is the words we speak. You probably have the ability to pick up on the other 93% but not everybody does and those who don't should study it. I don't feel that learning body language, or NLP are any different than taking public speaking courses. They all help us communicate better so none of them are "tricks so to speak".
