Hello,

Male, Age 66.

Diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma about 5 years ago. He believes its considered a Stage 4. He hasn't had any treatment for it as he is not experiencing any symptoms from it. I don't know if its considered in remission, doubt it. I think its considered "watchful waiting".

I have read the underwriting guides and one says in remission, another says 5 years since last treatment. I doubt its in remission and I don't think its been "treated".

Anybody have any helpful info or who if any company I should look at?

(I know I can call underwriters, but its late. I also know I need more info from him, I am getting prepared first)

Feel free to e-mail direct if you prefer.

I had John Hancock approve one of these about three years ago, when Genworth had already declined him. Not sure if they have changed UW since then, but give them a call first. Let us know how this progresses.

The best way to handle this is to get a copy of his medical records for the last 5 years including all blood workups.

As the patient, he can request a copy of his records from the doctor. Submit those records to a few underwriters and see what they say. I'd start with Genworth & Hancock and go from there.

If he tells you he's had either chemo or radiation within the past 5 years.......... it's over!

Thanks for the info!

I have never done it that way before, but it seems to make a lot of sense.

Would the LTC underwriters look at the APS without an application? (Once before they said bacause of HIPPA and time involved they would not)

He is also a long drive away, do you usually pick those up personally or mail/email?

Thanks!

No more Hancock in CA right now though.

Will assume they will give an "informal" look at the records?

Yes, this would be nothing more than an informal Pre-qualification with the carrier.

When (and if) you submit an app, it will then go through the full underwriting process.

Records should be sent to you and then you'd forward it directly to the company underwriter. Once you take an app, the company will not accept medical records from an agent, it must be sent from the company's aps vendor.

On any tricky medical issue you're dealing with, this is the best way to handle it. Saves time and frustration for both you and your prospect and avoids surprise declines. Proper pre-qualification is one of the most important things an agent can do.
