NW Agent Needs Other P&C Appointment Options

I'm currently an agent in an exclusive Nationwide Agency in Central Ohio. However, if a product is ineligible with Nationwide (due to credit, condition, or other factors), we basically become an independent agent and can place the business with anyone.

I am in need of ideas of companies that would be open to appointing us for that purpose. Both Erie and Cincinnati have declines, as they prefer to work only with independent agents.

The business we will be placing is 100% P&C, and most likely 100% HO policies.

Any help would be appreciated.

How long have you been with Nationwide? What do you think of them?

I'm not familiar with Ohio's P&C, so take this for what it is worth.

In part, the answer depends on how much of this business you come across. If it's only a few properties here and there, I would suggest either just passing on the business (takes to much time to write something you are not familiar with), or working with Insurance Noodle or SAIS to place the business through them.

With either, you'll have access to multiple carriers that will accept almost anything. It will give you a place to put some business policies that you wouldn't have a market for as well.

For me, telling people you have access to multiple carriers adds the value of the fees they charge to write through them.

Go to your local farm mutual protective, such as Washington Mutual, Pike Mutual, or Woodville Mutual. We have access to two farm mutuals in our office in my state and they do a great job for us.
