"Insurance companies offering individual coverage to children under the age of 19 are now required to hold a one-time transitional open enrollment period from September 23, 2010 until November 15, 2010. Additionally, beginning in July 2011, insurers writing individual coverage for children under age 19 are to hold an open enrollment period each July, for the entire month, and each January, for the entire month. Not all health insurers offer these policies, so please check with an agent or insurer to determine where to purchase this coverage."

Due to this, who will be the next carrier to drop child-only coverage from its portfolio in OH? LOL

Get on your DOI's website for notifications on open enrollment periods for children. Here's Oregon:

Oregon families can begin enrolling their children on November 1st. The Department of Consumer and Business Services today finalized emergency rules establishing the new enrollment periods, starting with a one-time enrollment period of Nov. 1, 2010 through Dec. 31, 2010. After that, children can enroll during February and August of every year. For more details, go to: Insurance Division - Dept. of Consumer&Business Services.

Are they going with the recent HHS letter and banning sales to children outside of the enrollment period? what a mess.

Are most of the National Carriers (UH1, H1, Aetna, Assurant) going with open enrollment periods for children OR enrolling children year-round (even guarantee issue kids)????:goofy:

AFAIK, all are still waiting on HHS to define open enrollment . . . and other provisions in Obamacrap as well.

One of the problems is, the people who drafted the bill have no clue what they did and HHS Shebullshits doesn't understand the mechanics of health insurance and risk management.
