Quoted from the "IFA webnews":
A man found guilty of killing a Brooklyn, N.Y., man at a Pennsylvania nightclub last year after arguing over payment of an insurance deductible was sentenced to 15 to 40 years in Pennsylvania state prison.
Gene Lorenzo Davis, 25, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., was sentenced in Luzerne County Court for stabbing Ronald Gabriel, 20, in March 2009 after disputing who would pay the deducible for a damaged vehicle, according to the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader.
In October, Davis pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the incident that occurred in the Energy 21/Diablo's after-hours club in Plains Township, Pa., according to the report.
"I'm sorry. I know my actions were wrong," Davis said, according to the report. He told the judge that he said he drank an entire bottle of Hennessy cognac, which he said "clouded" his judgment.
"I don't expect you to forgive me," he added, according to the report.
The newspaper, citing court records, said the argument between the two men was because a woman who hosted a party a few days before the stabbing loaned to Gabriel her vehicle, which Davis had been using. The woman indicated to police that Gabriel was involved in a crash, causing $500 in damage to the vehicle. She told officers that when Gabriel didn't pay for the damages, Davis became upset.
One witness testified that Davis told of punching someone in the face and another witness said he saw Davis approach Gabriel from behind and cut his throat, according to the report.
