Everyone works internet leads differently. Most seem to have a trigger finger, ready to dial the prospect as soon as the lead hits your box.

Others give them time to "breathe" and prefer to drip on their prospect until the prospect indicates they are ready to talk.

I am more of the latter, so this may not be for you.

On Sunday, 1/18 a lead hit my box at 12:17 PM. I did not see the lead until several hours later but sent out a proposal (including tracking).

Then I waited . . .

On Monday the proposal was opened and I called a few minutes later.

The name on the lead form was Lambert Michael. When a lead comes in I do a quick search on WhitePages to verify the name, address & phone before calling.

In doing so I found there was no listing for that name at that address, but there was a Roger Lambert at the same address, and same phone number. White pages also gave me more detail including his wife's name.

So . . . when I sent out the proposal it was to Roger Lambert, not Lambert Mitchell. When I called the next day a woman answered the phone. I referred to her by name and started into my "pitch".

Because I did my homework BEFORE calling, I had credibility that others with trigger fingers did not have.

I spent time gathering data and promising to send out a revised proposal that had more of what they actually needed.

Yesterday I took an application for $431 in monthly premium.

It might have happened if I had been the first in, or not. Sometimes you never know what will work but I have always been a firm believer in being prepared before going in.

Absolutely spot on. It is amazing to find the things a more seasoned agent will take for granted. I had an agent with a "trigger finger" a few days ago and blew the initial phone call; he thought all was lost. Yesterday when I called them they invited me out for an appointment. It was an annuity lead and not a Life lead, but all work in perfect harmony if executed correctly. Great post; I am sure that many will benefit from doing a little "homework."

I totally agree, that is what I would refer to as working "smarter" as opposed to working "faster". So many agents today seem to think that working faster is the only way to go.

Reading your post brought to mind a favorite saying, "The hurrier I go the behinder I get".

Somarco, the strategy makes sense, but don't you think you will also lose a lot of business this way as well? There's quite a few people who tell me they're "all set" by the time I get to them.

I'm gonna jump in here.

The folks that do something "quickly" (i.e.-one call close type action) turn out to usually be some of the worst clients you'll find!

It all depends whether you want to be a salesperson, or professional advisor.

Professional advisors understand that people do things for their own reasons, in their own timeframe.

They respect it too.

I hope it works for me, I've been trying your strategy (I read about it in previous posts by moon and somarco) with my shared leads for about 10 days now. I hope I'm not losing all these leads by "waiting". I leave 1 message only, 1 email on 1st day, and 1 about a week later.
