Post Cards - Direct Marketing

In addition to cold calling, walk and talk, and other other marketing-has anyone had any success with direct marketing using post cards? I have heard you must direct your efforts to a narrow market...for example new home owners, just married, new baby, senior citizens. Does anyone have opinions about which insurance does better with this approach-life,diability,or health?

Has anyone had experience using post cards for follow ups after phone calls or appointments?

There are positives and negatives to everything.

While postcards CAN be effective, they are also classic "junk mail".

Better solution...figure out WHO you want to mail to. Decide on the MESSAGE (what are you trying to accomplish).

THEN decide what sort of mail package would be best.

Keep the horse in front of the cart...

With post cards an envelope does not have to be opened.

As the boss or secretary is tossing it in the trash they may take a quick look to see what it is.

I like post cards, probably because first class is almost half, and they are much easier to handle, less work to process. I don't know if my return is any better or worse than a #10.

I have had plenty of prospects/clients keep the card in their desk then call me months later when the need arises.

Come to think of it, I need to pick up the volume!

I think that with any other direct marketing efforts you will not always get much of a return. There are ways to increase that return.

1- Creative Marketing
2- A more targeted list
3- Follow-up with phone call
4- Mail to the same group several times over a period of time
5- Timing the message around current and relevent events

Although I am sure that you all know that already. Just for the new guys.

It is much better to mail 100 people 4 times, then to send out 1,000 mailers. If it is a targeted list, and you have a few touches your results will always be better with the multi-mailings.
