Please help me out in the following situation.
As preliminary information according to the IRS a 65 mother who lives with her daughter, who has no income or Medicare can be claimed as a dependent on her daughter's tax return.
Now my problem: 34 female with 22k income who claims her mom 65 on her tax return ( household of 2), the primary is not applying for coverage, only the dependent.
Tried through Hc. gov, sherpa, Rabbittapp and the application will not go through.
Hcare, gov said dependent had to be 26 or younger, on Sherpa, at the end it just gave me the message " looks like nobody qualifies for a plan" .
Any ideas??

Have you tried calling in?

Power of attorney/guardianship/non-traditional dependents cause some issues with the automated underwriting.

Thanks for the reply. Calling in who? If it's the Marketplace I sincerely doubt they can help (as per my experience).

Switch it around.
Put the the 34 yr old as the primary on the policy, and the one to be insured. Then put mother down as other person in tax household.

Otherwise, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Have them call HC.gov or do a 3 way call.

(Still have not had to do one of those this year)

What you suggest is exactly what I did, the 34 year old was the primary and the 65 year old mom the dependent. Looks like dependents have to be max 26 years old.

Yes, actually call into a marketplace rep.

I won't say they're knowledgeable or helpful, but I will say they can force things through when the portal won't allow it.

I had quite a few change effective dates and perform other tasks that are impossible to do through the portal. It's worth a shot, because I guarantee you it will just keep not accepting the dependent until she goes back in time a few decades.

I have called in an asked for a supervisor 1st thing, which has never been an issue. If the situation is complicated, I opt for this, because it can be painful to have a rep stumble through something they don't know about. I have also had really good reps fix things as Ray says, several times.
Only one bad experience with a supervisor, all the rest good.
