Producer to Agent in Ohio.

Hello all,

I was a producer for a phone based insurance company for nine years and recently switched to a store front agency producer, and I like the opportunity of the latter.

I would like to start scratch, and since I have read many of the posts here I know nothing comes as expected, and it's going to be a crazy road; I still want it though. Which leads me to ask the simple question, many posts have many ways to start, but a limited few I have read don't explain the work before to open up.

So, before you became an agent what steps did you take to get started?

Chris, welcome! I am not a P&C agent but I think the two biggest things as a P&C agent is securing E&O and carrier appointments.

The question is do I bite the bullet and get my self into an association and use their E and O or get it independently? Most forum members have made me believe that associations are nice but they only help when you're afloat and moving along with small bumps.

Carrier appointments are another case, people are quick to tell you the ease or pain to get appointed but none explain where to ask in the first place. By chance, if any one can point a direction, that would be awesome!

If you know the carriers you would like to be appointed with I would start calling them.

So from the "contact us" and then finger cross, lol. I was hoping their was a more direct method. DMs are liking when someone seeks them out. I will have to search on that through the companies.
