There are a ton of different professional associations to choose from. I'm a member of NAIFA, NAHU and WIFS. Although I sell more health insurance, I'm much more active in my NAIFA chapter. I may even go through all of the chairs and shoot for a National position.

Do you belong to one? Which one? Why did you join? Do you feel it has been worthwhile and helpful to your business?

I was a member of a NAIFA organization with a very active YAT program. I really enjoyed those meetings and got quite a bit out of them.

Other than that, NAIFA's value is for political advocacy to protect the profession. I think that's great... once you're established and you have your own profession to protect.

In my opinion, if you want to learn some of the most cost-effective ways to build and grow your business... I would recommend the IARFC association.

No local chapters though... but I've gotten more out of the IARFC than any other association membership I've ever had - including NAIFA and SFSP.

I agree with DHK- NAIFA's focus is on protecting our industry and it's professionals. They have amazing grassroots lobbying built into their program.

There are other things that NAIFA does that I like- YAT is awesome, they have great tools on their website for business building, professional development through the LUTCF and FSCP programs and networking. My business would not be where it is today without the people I met at NAIFA.
