Today I visited a local specialty light bulb & fixtures store. The guy who owns it I've known for several years since they have every bulb imaginable. He just so happens to be from South Africa and I asked him about the public healthcare offered there.
Rationed care, hard to see a doctor, rundown conditions, system is bankrupt... these were just some of his comments. I'm no expert on South Africa so I asked what type of treatment/experiences he had. Scary was his exact term. He didn't use the public government run option but instead had a private healthcare plan. He called it 'Discovery' , so I searched and found this...

The government recommends people to get a private plan since the public option is awful he says. After another search I found this, read down middle of page...
South Africa Guide: Introduction,Public Healthcare,Private Healthcare,Health Insurance, One of the most import
So, I've heard from another person who has experiences first hand with government run public healthcare. I don't know, but I have yet to meet anyone from a foreign country with a public option who says it works and our government is trying to emulate this type system? Am I missing something here?
Someone wake me once the nightmare is over!
