Hi folks,
I am a PA resident. Recently, my uncle in MA passed away, and his car went to my aunt, who also lives in MA. My aunt is going to transfer the title to me. I was trying to figure out how the heck to get the car down here with a minimum of insurance/registration fuss, and I'm admittedly at a loss. Apparently, Massachusetts doesn't have the concept of "temporary tags." It seems like Massachusetts expects me to register the car in my name in MA, even though I'm not going to use it there. I don't want to get in any legal trouble doing this, but at the same time all I need to do is drive the car south for six hours.
One option is to just "borrow" the car while it's still in my aunt's name and drive it to PA, and then register the car here and mail her back the MA plates or something. I'm not sure if that would help out at all, or if it would be problematic legally.
There are car shipping services, but I would really prefer not to spend $500 to have the car shipped here when all I need to do is drive the car for six stupid hours.
Thoughts?
Steve
