Obama is officially locking in to the one-stop health exchange / government run plan along side private plans idea here in this letter to Kennedy. so, that is where he is going to try to go.
It sounds like it is not news but it is. His modus has always been to float proposals around town and in the press and through his underlings for months to see who salutes when they run them up the flag pole. If not enough people or congress members salute he just says "well, that is one of seveal options we were looking at." The result is that by the time he comes out and firmly supports health exchange and a government run option we have all been hearing about it for so long it doesnt seem like news. But this is where he is going to dig in for the battle.
I remain quite sure that reform is coming but I still have doubts about how full blown a socialist plan he can achieve. My reservations are based on three things that are still developing: 1) how badly California tanks and scares the bejesus out people about public spending in general, 2) Bernanke and others are shifting over now and talking about inflation and government spending being the ruin of the economy giving lots of fodder for those who oppose big spending, and 3) Olympia Snowes announcement that she wants it to remain in the private sector for now and achieve reforms there, and congress is up for re-election and does not want to be attached to spendulus. Obama will get a lot. Whether he gets the government run "option" I don't know.
Let the games begin, or continue, I should say.
