Are the increased renewal commissions on MA's payable on cases we placed in prior years? I saw somewhere that this was the case. Anyone know?

Thanks

I know of only one carrier, Care Improvement Plus, that provides SNPs only, to announce this provision. I hear others are contemplating it, but I have not seen any official announcement yet, and I am not holding my breath.

I would like a better understanding of these renewals myself.

Seems some companies are requiring you to credential with them in order to be paid your renewal commission. I consider a non-certified/credentialed agent similar to an inactive/terminated L&H agent due to lack of production, but still receives his commissions on prior work he has produced.

For them to summarily not pay on the business you brought them is thievery! And encourages churning. What about contract violation? Any thoughts here? Lets add this to the complaints to our politicians against CMS and the MA companies.

I got this from a marketing organizations email explaining MA/PD commissions. I know I also saw it on this forum somwhere also. I am trying to find out if it's true. If it is it's the one piece of good news in all this mess.

"Don't quote me, but my interpretation is that all renewals you currently have on the books will start to pay at the new renewal commission rate starting 1/1/2009. In most cases this results in an instant raise for you!"

Don't ya think they would have announced a renewal commission up-tick along time ago to prevent churning.

What you've seen is what you'll get! The old renewals will remain as is. Carriers are not going to boost your renewals. They would love for agent's to believe this. Sorry that's a different kinda bail-out.

OK...nice comments. But no one has answered the question I asked.

Can a company refuse to pay you your renewal commissions on business you wrote in '06,'07,'08 UNLESS you RE-contract and RE-certify for '09?

I have several companies I did scatter shot selling for years past and don't want to contract again.

Am I then going to forfeit my renewals?

Your contract language will dictate. Each carrier has different language. And yes -- they can! Anthem (ex. Wellcare, Unicare) is one that has claimed this. They have been adding gotcha clauses the last two years and this is one of them.

Another gotcha Anthem clause recently added:

16. Unsolicited Contacts. ...Producer may not... Place any outbound calls to Members... unless the beneficiary request the call...

I think this is going to be decided company by company. Check the latest on UHC in the thread about this subject.
