San Antonio visit

In a couple of weeks, we are staying in the Tobin Hill area for a week.

One of my kids is looking to relocate to Texas and while he and my Daughter in Law check out homes, schools, and areas we are going to tour around with my two-year-old granddaughter. Looks like we will be a half mile from the River Walk. And of course we can Uber.

Any daytime places we should check out?
Night adult beverage and maybe music?

Not that it matters but the kids are in their 20s. Lisa and I are well,,, Not.

Thanks

I have fond memories of my visit to San Antonio.

I suggest you check out the Riverwalk and the Alamo. Generally speaking, the people down in that area are some of the nicest people you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting.

You will be in the middle of all of it! In the area where you will stay, you are very close to "The Pearl"- a revamped (some say overvamped) brewery made into an entertainment/residential/hotel area. The upper reaches of the man made San Antonio River run through there. You will find a lot of restaurants, bars and The Alamo in the downtown area very close together. You have to try a Whataburger when you are down there. The one on downtown Commerce St is open 24 hours. Another good burger is Chris Madrid's near Hildebrand & Blanco Rd.
SA is best known for the best TexMex food in the state.
Downtown Mi Tierra, Rosario's are well known, but most locals don't go to downtown. If you get to upper Broadway area (Alamo Hts), I would recommend Paloma Blanca, SolLuna, La Margarita (has mariachis) or La Fonda on Main St (closer to Tobin Hill) for fine dining TexMex.
The restaurants on the RiverWalk tend to be overpriced and over commercialized. But, the barge on the RiverWalk is still affordable. Last I rode was in 2005, ~$7 or so then.
If you park downtown, try to find a City of SA parking garage, not the privately owned ones, which are a ripoff.
If you like shopping, La Cantera is a good outdoor mall place to go, but further out near 10 West and 1604 intersection.
The area just south of DT is called "Southtown" (gentrified) and King William (fancy old houses).
If you like to walk and drink, that's what they mostly do in downtown SA. Sometimes, there are shows at the Majestic or Empire theaters. Plenty of bars downtown- look for the ones that have live music (jazz, oldies). Landry's is good.
Enjoy.

Same! I went there for a wedding many years back and had a blast. Everyone is chill and some of the best tex mex you'll find

Been there once. Did all the tourists stuff. The Alamo, the River Walk, Tower of the Americas, etc. I don't know Matt Munigia, (SpurCity), back then or I would have checked with him.

I like Mi Tierra. They have cabrito on the menu! Haven't been there in a long time, but it was very good! If you go, you have to check out the mural on the back wall. Pretty cool.

As I mentioned one my boys is looking at homes in SA.

Any recommendations- +- $500k, their requirements are heavy on the young families side. They are looking for their contemporaries. Late 20s early 30s. Schools, activities, night life.

That's a toughie-so many places. With that kind of $ to spend, there would surely be a lot of options. The fastest growing areas are the large area up north off of 281 north of 1604, New Braunfels area. My sister and BIL say that even their neighborhood has a lot of young couples that have replaced the oldies. They live in Deerfield. Shavano Park in that same area is an upscale area with young ppl.
This fairly large area (in town) that I would consider for them is bounded by the 10, 410, 281 & 1604- making a square. If they don't like too much traffic, stay away from the communities along Culebra Rd. You might want to test the traffic at peak hours to get a feel for commuting time. I'm excited for them.
