Kind of a continuation of my previous poll:
Again, in general, im one of the biggest advocates of a free market that you will find.
But at the same time I am also a huge fan of mutual insurance companies because of their dedication and responsibilities to policy holders as opposed to stock holders.
I realize that it was their choice to be mutual, but its hard to deny the benefits.
Think if all of the dividends from the HI companies went to policy holders instead of to the stock holders.....
Plus policy holders would then have a vote on board members, which would give them much more power over their coverage.
Mutual companies turn a profit too, so you cant use the argument that this would create profitless companies.
Any publicly traded company has a huge obligation/responsibility to their shareholders. Not only is it a legal obligation, but an operational one as well since they are at the mercy of shareholders.
This is a clear conflict of interest in my opinion. And as critical as health insurance has become for this country, is it not one that we would be better off eliminating????
