Slightly Ridiculous Question

A client of mine whom I handle his auto is trying to start a "Sloshball" league. Basically its a drinking sport with random baseball like rules and chugging is involved to settle disputes as there is no Umpire. Also fielders must play with beers in hand. He is wondering if anyone would insure such a league for General Liability. I approached Phily, they took a pass as I was expecting. Just figured I'd do a little more searching before telling him I can't handle the risk. I put an email into my broker as well but really not sure if anyone insures drinking sport leagues. Thanks as always.

Where would they be playing where drinking in public is legal? And next would be to check the local laws to see if public intoxication is legal.
Its going to be held in a Private park that requires an Alcohol Permit and then your able to drink inside the park. Also requires 75 dollar fee to be able to use the softball field. People play Sloshball on this park recreationally all the time and there is never a problem. This group would just like to make a more organized sport of it and try to profit from setting up an official league. If there is an organization that will host this type of event they would like to be insured as it wouldn't just be their friends and the likely hood for lawsuit to be brought against them would be increased.

To the other guy, yes it is in California and not formed yet but I'll keep you posted soon as I can find some company crazy enough to insure this risk. haha.

This is definitely a non-standard risk, the only place I would think MIGHT take this is something like Lloyds. It will not be cheap.

The chances of physical injury are high, as one of those chugging contest may not actually settle the dispute. The odds of someone getting into an accident on the way home from drinking to much is HUGE, and if it is an organized sport, the league would have some liability.

Of course, you know all this already. This is one of those deals I would probably pass on. You'll spend a lot of time finding out that there is no reasonable way to cover this. I hope you prove me wrong.
