Hi all,

I'm trying to get some quotes for a client who currently has an Australian license. She has no accidents, but does have 3 speeding tickets within the last four years, so that may be a factor as well.

Any ideas of which carriers I should try?

Thanks!

Does she have an actual foreign license, Cali license, or both?

Year make model of the car
What coverage
How long does she plan to stay
Does she plan to get a license

Car is a 2002 VW Cabrio
Limits are 100/300/100 and comp/coll 1k ded.
She plans to stay a few years, and plans on getting a CA license soon, but needs coverage ASAP.
I managed to get quotes with Mercury and Progressive, but the rates are pretty high. Any others you guys would suggest?

Thanks!

Mercury and Progressive prefer more standard drivers meaning she needs to have a license or they will be extremely expensive (if they even accept her for longer than 30 days). There are not very many companies that will offer a driver 100/300/100 to a non licensed driver or at least for very cheap....

If she plans to get her license soon, try a company like Access. They offer a month to month policies or even year long policies with no cancellation fee. When she gets her license you can write her with a better company. The only thing is Access only does state minimums so you would have to upgrade the coverage if she switches after getting her license.

Are you a broker or captive trying to just "help" out a client cause you can't write them? You should know that most companies don't run foreign records its just a clean record with no Good Driver discount or unacceptable. And then when she gets her license its clean unless shes had driving violations in the US. With some a lot of companies if shes older than 16 you can even max her out as if shes had a license since 16.

she probally could have gotten her CA license by now........just saying, half a day at the DMV.

Progressive will write it yes they give her a foreign drivers license surcharge but it really isn't as bad as you think. I know in our state the rate is not that high for a foreign driver. I Insure many that are from Canada and not license in the states and they have no problem writing and they will keep in in force for more then 30 days. There are many carriers that will write this Depends on if the carrier is admitted to your state. Kemper specialty will also write it also Hallmark Insurance all 3 will write it here .
