Here are nine thoughts I had on what the current market turmoil might mean for the Medicare and ACA markets, what else am I missing?

How does the turmoil in the labor market, the Japanese carry trade unwinding, US stock market drop today and potential emergency rate reduction by the fed impact the Medicare and ACA markets? Here are nine initial thoughts, likely to change quickly in a dynamic environment

1. Current borrowing costs are likely to come down. That could have an immediate positive impact on the publicly traded distributors as much of the debt out there is impacted quickly by the fed rate. The interest rates are generally tied to SOFR, which doesn’t always move completely in tandem with the fed, but generally does follow its direction

2. Fed drop will also likely have a marginal impact on the carriers themselves, who also have some outstanding debt on their balance sheets
