Let me start this thread by saying I am a life guy and know very little about health. I also have zero interest in any sort of split if you can help this person out.

I have a friend who has had colon cancer twice. It appears it may have come back for the 3rd time. She is going through a divorce and will be losing group on 1.1.16. All treatment has been done at mda and she does not want to go anywhere else for pretty obvious reasons. She is going through a divorce and is on temporary disability. She does obviously have COBRA available, but 750 is a bit of a stretch on SSDI. I have worked with a very knowledgable broker locally. He has options, but it appears mda is largely unavailable in the individual market.

Evidently all Houston based carriers are going to an HMO effective 1.16 except for whatever network Hermann Memorial is in, but they have dropped MDA in that network.

In short. Stuck on Cobra. Cant afford $750. Oh also does not qualify for Medicaid if that helps. Wants to keep going to mda. Any options to continue at mda.

I know that was a lot but any input would be greatly appreciated.

Deeadly serious about not seeking a split of any kind. If you can find a solution you have earned it! Thanks in advance.

I have a similar situation, client in the Austin area and goes to MD Anderson. We can't find anything in the individual market for her that has MDA in network. My advice to her is take the COBRA - in my situation the self employed husband and wife are forming a small group so they can qualify for a group plan. This way she can continue to see her specialists.

Hope this helps!

Can individuals purchase this plan? I only find it listed under "Insurance through employer" on the Humana website.

They are still doing website updates.

Run a quote and see what Humana offers in the clients zip code. DFW has the Choice Care PPO, but its not offered statewide.
