My grandfather-in-law was a middle class Irishman who came to America as a child and never finished college.

Ended up settling down and starting a family. Twenty years later he was a seasoned, successful group insurance agent with Prudential. When he retired from the insurance business he ended up buying apartment buildings (30+ units) and enjoying a several million dollar net worth.

Not relevant to any current topics on the board just thought that someone could use that example to look forward to after a long fruitful career through hard work and intelligence.

Grandfather passed on, but we still have the gold prudential necklace he was given...

Never forget that you're in this business for the long term. Always be forthright and always work as if tomorrow depended on it.

How about to 30+ units;)

I have a large hollow gourd in my office. It has a rope and cord handmade netting around it and forms a type of handle. The top has a hole with a hand carved wooden plug.

It was my grandfathers water jug, when he first came over. It sits on a shelf with the killing knife I gave my son before he left for Iraq. When I think I am working to hard it reminds me that it can be harder. Thanks for the reminder, Lee

It is truly amzaing what a little tenacity will do.

The trick to this business is to wake up every morning feeling broke, and to run scared.

I think you're right! I've only been in the insurance business for a few months & I've found that I really have to work hard. I don't have a problem with working hard, just getting all the answers I need isn't always easy.

What kind of answers are you looking for?

The reality is that no one person knows all the answers; an intelligent person just knows where to look and who to ask.

Ask away.

I don't know if any of you watch Oprah? doubt it but she had a very inspiring show today. The first guest today is the new lead singer for Journey and played for food in the Philippines and was discovered on a Utube video. The other was a young black girl who has lived on skid row since she was about 6 with her mother and sister, she went to so many different schools that when she went to high school she wanted to continue at that school and got up at 4:00 to catch a bus that took 2 1/5 hrs. She said the library was her second home, thru that she graduated with honors and is now attending Harvard. All I can say is we are on easy street. You can accomplish anything if you want it bad enough. I am from Los Angeles, and living on skid row your whole life! I can't imagine the strength it would take every day to overcome that. I don't think we have anything to whine about. All of the above comments are so true, and if you take that to heart you will be successful and love getting up every morning. Well almost!
