To Tips Club or Not to Tips Club

I am considering starting a Tips Club in my area. I currently have several contacts in different industries and would like to bring us all together for prospecting and sharing leads.

I belonged to one of these years ago and can't remember if it was worth the time or not.

Any advice or experience with this type of prospecting tool?

These can be very beneficial (tips, bni, a few others) or a total waste of time. It mostly depends on your group.

I belonged to a BNI group for about 3 years. The first year was fantastic, the second year was good, the 3rd year was terrible. The group started focusing on the group rather than the purpose of the group (i.e., we need more members, rather than focusing on business). In BNI, the 'executives' get paid by having paying members, not by referrals, so they really push having a large membership base.

My experience is that you have to have 20-25 members to be productive, and that can lead to a decent flow of prospects. You do need to find members that will attract the appropriate clientele for you though.

It's a decent thing, just make sure the expectations are set correctly from the start.

A equal amount of time spent prospecting outside of the TIPs or the BIN will produce better results. That is my observation.
