I have an insured who's kid (that's licensed & lives w/ them but is NOT a listed driver..) rented a car & got into an accident.

Would the parents insurance extend coverage since he's a resident relative? Or would it be denied because he wasn't a listed driver.

The kid rented the car, or the parents did, and the kid wrecked it?
Just wanting to clarify that portion of it

That depends on the contract... Some companies exclude all non-disclosed resident relatives and some don't. And the rental car being thrown in on top of that makes it even trickier. More than likely they would cover the parents vehicle, but I doubt they would extend coverage for the rental. If he rented a car, he was probably living with them undisclosed for a long time, if he is living with them at all.

I would venture to guess if the kid rented the vehicle in his own name there would be no coverage. If the parents rented it then there would probably be coverage.

Had a guy go on vacation with his grandpa and grandpa rented the car grandpa flew home and guy kept car for a couple extra days and damaged it. Claim was denied as it wasn't rented by him. Grandpa had to pay it

The car was rented in the kid's name (so he's not listed on the parent's policy anywhere.) Even the claim advocate didn't know the answer

99% of the time, resident relative will have no coverage.
Since the car was rented by the kid, not the parents, there really isn't any coverage.

Did he check the credit card he used to rent it with. Will that extend coverage.

Liability follows the Driver to cover the Rental; he is not listed as a driver so no coverage; if it was a family car and he is not included or excluded coverage is possible; why would someone rent him a car if he doesn't have at least liability?
