What Can I Do if I'm Being Over Price on a Claim?

I was in an accident, I rear ended this old timers car.
The car belonged to my brother and I was going to the store to buy groceries, I'm not going to go into the story on why I took my brothers car to go 4 blocks since I think is irrelevant.

My brothers car was insured, but only for him, so they denied paying the claim, which I can understand.
The thing is, I barely hit the car, I stopped almost entirely before hitting the old timers car, nothing happened to both cars, besides paint damage, neither of our bumper was cracked or broken.

Which makes me wonder, why is the insurance company asking for 2,345 dollars?

I just dont see that figure as a possibility.
I think he could have bought the bumper, and paineted the entire car, and would have come out cheaper.

I want to dispute that ammount, I don't think its plausible... I think they are trying to maximize profit off me since a insurance company wont defend me on my behalf.

any suggestions or advice please.?
It would really be of help.

God bless

Two thinngs come to mind. First of all, most if not all auto insurance policies covers the owner and the car no matter who is driving as long as the driver was given permission by the owner to drive the car. Also what about your own auto insurance on your car? That should cover you as well for driving your brother's car.

well, if you dont like the estimate, get 3 different estimates.

Some auto policies are written where they only cover the named insured.

Call the DOI and file a complaint.

Your auto insurance would be secondary or primary perhaps in this case......

I tagged a bumper eariler this year. Put a chip in the paint the size of a quarter, no dent, nothing else, didn't actually know I hit the car backing up my pickup. the cost? $931 to fix a bumper paint chip the size of a quarter.

Autobody repairs are up there, so the claim, while you don't like it, may be legit.

Sorry man. I was pissed about mine too.

I think you either pay what the insurance company is asking or they take you to small claims court and get a judgement against you.

Based on claims I see get paid, the rate might be a bit high, but it's not out of line. It's amazing how the $20 bumper (from when I was a kid) has now become one of the most expensive parts on the car.

Also, keep in mind, you were responsible for a few other items, such as a rental car while his car was in the shop. With bumper reconditioning, this was probably 3 days.

Yes, I could have gotten the repair done for $800, not a problem. Doesn't matter. Despite what people think, insurance companies actually pay for a quality repair, not the lowest possible price repair. In fact, they are on the hook that the repair lasts and the paint job doesn't bubble 2 years from now.

Your auto insurance company will pay the claim for you if your brothers denied the claim, due to driver restrictions. Happens all the time.

Exactly...I'm thinking the most important piece of the puzzle is missing...was he given permission? Let's get that info before we move forward.

Sounds to me like:

You took your brother's car without his permission.

You had a small fender bender.

Your brother is worried his ins. rates will now increase because of your fender/bender driving his car, and you did not have his permission to drive it.

So you decide you'll pay it out of pocket yourself to keep from reporting this claim to your brother's ins. co.

You were shocked at the price to repair.

Did I miss anything?

Sounds like an astute assessment.

Yes you did. He doesn't have his own insurance.
